My PRK Eye Surgery Experience

I have been wearing glasses since middle school, and I've always wanted to find a way to improve my vision. Recently, my friend's social media post about her successful LASIK eye surgery gave me the courage to finally seek a solution for my own vision problem. With my friend's glowing recommendation of TLC Laser Eye Centers, I knew that this was the opportunity I had been waiting for. Without hesitation, I visited the same Eye Center that my friend had trusted.

Before the Surgery:

An eye doctor conducted a thorough eye exam to determine if I was a good candidate for LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) eye surgery. After the examination, I was advised that PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) eye surgery would be the better option for me due to my thin corneas.

  • Cost
  • The total cost for my PRK surgery and post-surgery eyedrops for both eyes was $5,868, but luckily they gave me a $1,030 promotional discount, bringing the total cost down to $4,838. To make things easier, the clinic offered several payment plan options with varying lengths and interest rates. I chose the 12-month plan, which involves making equal monthly payments of $403 without any interest.

    During the Surgery:

During the PRK surgery, my eyes were numbed with eye drops and I was instructed to keep my gaze fixed on a green dot. The procedure was quick and painless, lasting around 10 minutes. After the surgery, despite experiencing some blurriness, I was still able to book an Uber ride and call a friend to accompany me back home. If you're planning to undergo PRK surgery, I highly recommend having someone accompany you to go home.

    After the Surgery:

After my PRK surgery, the eye doctor placed protective shields over both of my eyes to prevent me from touching them. They also gave me sunglasses to wear outdoors for the next several weeks. I fell asleep immediately when I got home, but my eyes were very sensitive for the first few days, and I would tear up whenever I opened them. To help ease the discomfort, I used eye drops and painkillers. I was also extremely tired and slept most of the time. If you're planning to undergo PRK surgery, I recommend listening to audiobooks instead of engaging in other activities during the initial recovery period.

As of writing this blog, it's been a week since the surgery, and I'm so excited to tell you that my vision has improved a lot! I can play ping pong without glasses now, which was impossible before. Overall, I'm beyond happy with the results and have absolutely no regrets about getting the surgery. I hope this blog can help all you fellow glasses-wearers out there, and I'm sending you all wishes for a crystal-clear vision!
